Subject: ACL Leadership Changes

Dear Colleagues,

Yesterday the Nation experienced a peaceful transition of power to President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris.  The Biden Administration swiftly began to implement the Biden Administration’s priorities and continued to fill key leadership positions.  Key priorities include addressing the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, racial equity, and economic recovery.

I am also pleased to announce two new appointees to ACL:

·         Alison Barkoff, who was sworn into office as the Principal Deputy Administrator, and currently also serves as Acting Administrator and Assistant Secretary for Aging; and

·         Reyma McCoy-McDeid, who was sworn into office as the Commissioner of the Administration on Disabilities and Director of the Independent Living Administration.

You can read their bios on the Leadership page of ACL.gov.  Principal Deputy Barkoff comes to ACL from the Center for Public Representation.  Commissioner McCoy-McDeid joins us from the Central Iowa Center for Independent Living.  The AoD leadership will work together with new leadership to ensure a successful transition.

ACL and the Offices of Independent Living Programs (OILP) remains steadfast in its vision, mission, and commitment to advancing independence, integration, and inclusion of people with disabilities.  The Biden Administration has signaled an expectation that colleagues treat one another with respect and civility.  While not a new concept in OILP, we recommit ourselves to this challenge and hold steadfast to the principle that we are stronger together than apart.

I look forward to continuing our collective work and the many future successes we will achieve together.

In partnership,

Corinna Stiles
